Sore throats – Reasons, effects and remedies

Sore throat, the serious disease damages the pharynx, i.e. the part between the larynx (voice box) and the mouth. Known as tonsillitis or pharyngitis, it is painful and creates scratches & irritation and makes swallowing much difficult. Lasting for about three days, sore throat is more trying in the mornings. Care must be taken to heal the ailment in the bud as its worsened condition could lead to laryngitis or tonsillitis, a grave and harmful situation.

Reasons – As prevention is better than having to search for sore throat remedies, so it is wise to know the reasons of sore throats and avoid the same as they could cause cancer or AIDS even. Most common cause is bacterial infection or the viral. Coughing, sneezing, kissing and sharing of drinks etc originate infection. Serious problems like rheumatic fever result in inflammation of the kidney or heart valve problems that are caused due to strep throat, the bacterial infection. Inflammation in the tonsils affects our breathing. Lot of viruses like the Epstein-Barr make us suffer from throat pains that are caused due to glandular fever too. We could develop some acute breathing problems due to the large glands and tonsils in the neck. Measles also create sore throats that could develop due to drying of the throat while breathing through our mouth. Persistent meek throat exasperation could be caused due to allergies, infectious mononucleosis, foreign substances, chicken bone or the fish. There could be problems in our throats due to sinus drainage and adenoidectomy or tonsillectomy surgeries. Smoking, acid reflux, nasal infections and pollution etc also affect our throats adversely.

Major effects – Sore throats result in headache, vomiting like situations, breathing problems, difficulty to open the mouth & talk, joint pains, irritation, white patches on the tonsils or in the mouth, swallowing problems, blood in phlegm or saliva and high fever etc. Your neck would also get affected adversely that results in  ruffness. We suffer badly as the pain spreads to the ears also that cause hearing problems. It could lead to swelling in the soft palate and the tonsils because of the Coxsackie virus while the streptococcal infection causes swelling in the tonsils ensuing in their coating that increase the pains.

Treatment – Having understood the basic reasons and the dreadful impacts of sore throats, the sufferers can get themselves treated with the appropriate remedies. The cheapest home sore throat remedies is drinking warm water or other liquids like decaffeinated coffee, herbal tea, chicken broth etc that help to cure the dried up mucous membranes. Steam-breathing would also be helpful to control breathing problems. Similarly gargling with hot salty water or with whiskey/bourbon three or four times a day relaxes your throat. Use of boiled honeysuckle flowers, cayenne, homey, apple cider vinegar, lemon, hard candy, garlic, ginger/marjoram tea, licorice root, marshmallow, lime juice, balloon flower, aspirin, ibuprofen and acetaminophen etc is also much rational to get relieved from the disease. Do visit your doctor or any reputed hospital for sore throat remedies.
